AGE GROUPS EXPLAINED

A soccer year runs from August 1 of a year until July 31 of the next year. When figuring out age groups, August 1 is the “Magic Date.” Whatever age your child is on August 1, is the age that they will be for the entire soccer year. For example, if your child is 5 on August 1, but turns 6 in October, they are still considered 5 for the entire soccer year. Greene County United plays 3 Age groups for In-house soccer (U6, U8, and U10). The U in the group stands for Under (so they are Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10.) On August 1, if your child is 4 or 5, they will play Under 6 (U6). If they are 6 or 7, they will play Under 8 (U8). If they are 8 or 9, they will play Under 10 (U10).

If you feel that your child is excelling in their appropriate age group and would benefit from playing with older children, you have the option of requesting that your child play up to another age group. So, for example, if your 5 year old (age on August 1) is running circles around the other U6 players, you may want to consider having him play in U8 (with 6 and 7 year olds.) If you have questions about this, please contact the in-house registrar at inhoueregistrar@greenesoccer.org. You may wish to speak with the coach that your child had for the previous season to get his or her perspective as well. In all cases, Greene County United must have an email from the parent requesting that a child play up in order for us to allow that.

In Greene County, if your child is 10 or above on August 1, they can only play Travel Soccer. Greene County plays in Travel Divisions 5 and 6. Travel soccer is still recreational, but the away games are played against other clubs instead of against other teams from within Greene County. Generally, the games are within a 1 hour drive of Waynesburg.n-House program is f

The Travel program is for U-10 to U-19 players. The traveling program is a graduation from the in-house program. Registration Fee: $60. Sibling discount rate: $35. Games are played on Sunday. Home games are in Waynesburg.
For Travel Players: (adopted Spring 2013)

Player placement on teams will be after team integrity is maintained. Placement will be established by the Board for the respective age group, after team integrity (if applicable), in the following order:

1.      Number of open roster spots

2.      Age of the player in relation to the age level of the team (players of appropriate age will be placed BEFORE any play-up requests are honored regardless of application date)

3.      Date of application and payment

4.      Parent request for age group play-up

5.      Availability of other teams in the League for which the player may play (appropriate age level as opposed to play-up)

6.      Siblings wishing to play on the same team

7.      Other determining factors

Late registrations will be placed on an as needed basis if open roster spots are available in the same manner as described above
